Who is het onderwerp. Whom is het lijdend voorwerp. Zo kies je het juiste woord.
Who doet de actie (onderwerp). Whom ontvangt de actie (lijdend voorwerp).
Vervangtest: past "he/she", gebruik who. Past "him/her", gebruik whom.
"Who called?" → He called.
"To whom should I address this?" → To him. In informeel Engels wordt whom steeds vaker who. In formele teksten blijft whom de voorkeur hebben.
