Ideal Word Count for SEO Blog Posts in 2026

Longer isn't always better. Here's what actually ranks, based on intent, not arbitrary length targets.

SEO blog post word count is not one magic number. The "write 2,000 words and you'll rank" advice is outdated. Google rewards content that fully answers the query, and that might be 800 words or 3,000.

For informational posts targeting competitive keywords, 1,500–2,500 words is a common range because you need depth to cover the topic properly. But a tight 900-word guide that nails the answer can outrank bloated competitors.

Meta descriptions should stay under 160 characters. Title tags work best around 50–60 characters. These aren't suggestions, Google truncates beyond those limits.

Use our counter's keyword density panel when optimizing posts. If your target phrase appears 15 times in 800 words, that's a problem. If it appears twice in 2,000 words of genuine coverage, you're fine.
